Overview

SUMMARY :

We’re looking for a dynamic Business Development Manager with proven success in the freight forwarding sector. In this role, you’ll focus on driving new business within the Retail and FMCG industry, prospecting, securing, and implementing client accounts while delivering tailored logistics solutions. This is a sales-focused position with no staff reporting lines, ideal for a results-driven professional who thrives on winning new business.

NB! Only candidates with proven freight forwarding industry experience will be considered for this role.

About the Company

Our client is a global and freight-forwarding organisation with a strong presence in South Africa. They provide end-to-end logistics solutions tailored to industry-specific needs. This role is based at their Jet Park offices, with a focus on growth in the Retail / FMCG sector.

Role Overview

This is not a traditional “head of department” role. It is a pure business development position where you will be responsible for driving new sales within the Retail / FMCG sector. You will focus on securing new freight forwarding and logistics business, ensuring service implementation, and managing ongoing client relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Identify, prospect, and secure new Retail / FMCG clients for freight forwarding and logistics solutions.
  • Achieve and exceed new business sales targets.
  • Develop tailored proposals, estimates, and presentations for client solutions.
  • Negotiate rates and service agreements to ensure competitive, value-driven offerings.
  • Establish new accounts and ensure smooth service implementation.
  • Maintain CRM (Concerto) with accurate pipeline data and activity reporting.
  • Stay informed on industry developments, competitor activity, and customer requirements.
Requirements
  • Matric essential.
  • Minimum 3 years’ proven sales track record in Clearing & Forwarding.
  • Previous formal sales training required.
  • Strong knowledge of Retail / FMCG logistics needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure and grow new accounts in freight forwarding.
  • Excellent presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.
