Role Purpose/Business Unit:

The Business Development Manager, Vodacom Business Africa (VBA), role is based within the Sales function of VBA.

The role of the Business Development Manager is to strategically position VBA as a preferred and dominant wholesale fixed provider in Africa.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop growth strategies and plans to attract new customers/partners, negotiate with internal stakeholders and external partners, and follow industry trends locally and internationally.
  • Report on successes and areas needing improvement.
  • Leverage relationships with product management to define and drive focus propositions to develop incremental business opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform as a “hunter” to onboard new customers across the African continent, while managing and growing existing customer base.
  • Responsible for sales plan delivery against targets within the defined customer base/industry vertical.
  • Present Vodafone/Vodacom solutions, negotiate, and close deals.
  • Contribute to annual business planning and reviews.
  • Coordinate with Regional, Global, and National Account Managers to develop and execute sales strategies.
  • Develop and implement a business development strategy for IOT/Microsoft/Cloud products within the target industry vertical.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Matric qualification is essential.
  • Diploma/BCom/BSc degree or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of ICT experience in fixed business solutions.
  • Successful B2B sales experience in large, complex environments (e.g., MICROSOFT, telecoms, IT).
  • 4-8 years’ experience with Linux/Unix systems, preferably in Cloud/hypervisor/VM environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with VAS Messaging platforms is beneficial.
  • GSM experience is a major advantage.

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:

  • Proven success in ICT B2B sales.
  • Strong strategic and tactical skills for market structuring and establishment.
  • Understanding of IOT/Microsoft/Cloud value chains and their impact on business models.
  • Ability to engage at C-level.
  • Skill in translating ICT principles into business value.
  • Deep industry vertical knowledge and understanding of business drivers and challenges.
