Business Development Manager

Our client, a leader in the Shipping and logistics industry, is looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to join their dynamic Cape Town team.

Position reporting to: Managing Director

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. Grade 12
2. Tertiary Freight qualification is advantageous.
3. Shipshape or similar knowledge
4. Several years industry experience in supply chain, warehousing, management, and operations
5. Experience in a leadership role

MAIN JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Acquisition of new business – minimum target twice basic salary
2. Commission structure will be based on agency/documentation, freight, and transport over recoveries; the commission will apply with minimum achieved and payable at a rate of 15% for the first year, 10% for the second year, and 5% for the third year and ongoing
3. Required to have a minimum of 10 ongoing target accounts
4. Regular client calls on a rotational basis
5. Attend events such as exhibitions and conferences
6. Identify areas where customers need support and/or attend to complaints, including the collection of overdue accounts
7. Focus on re-securing lost business and stabilize and retain threatened loss of business
8. Manage your sales pipeline and submit a weekly report every Friday
9. Ensure monthly collation of sales reports
10. Monitor competitor activity and trends
11. Assist with estimates and update the estimate register where the need arises; follow up on the outcome of the estimates
12. Appraise yourself with digital/social media and marketing strategies
13. Educate your clients on Shipshape Syntrac (internal software) by selling the advantages of our systems
14. Communicate the benefits of our AEO status
15. Implement your activities on the CRM - Shipshape
16. Build good working relationships with operational staff and the sales team
17. Manage and arrange customer workshops if and when required
18. Assist with debtors
19. Any other duties associated with this position.
