There is an immediate vacancy for a Business Development Manager (East), reporting to the Head of Sales & Marketing.
Position Overview
The Business Development Manager will focus on both Capital (New Sales) within the geographical business areas. The incumbent must possess strong technical, sales, and marketing skills, with knowledge in underground mining, specifically mechanized mining equipment and related systems. The position requires an individual with good business acumen who can work independently.
Sound communication and presentation skills are essential, as well as the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders, which are crucial to success. The role includes managing all facets of the business unit, including capital and aftermarket sales, business growth, and client retention.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing operations within the geographical area of responsibility.
- Developing and generating business to increase profitability.
- Implementing business strategies specific to the area of operation, as established by the Head of Department.
- Detailing annual business operating plans, setting quarterly and annual budgets.
- Recruiting staff, monitoring performance, and providing training and mentorship.
- Conducting sales and marketing activities in the respective geographic areas.
- Developing client-specific sales strategies to support the sales vision.
- Implementing established sales policies, practices, and procedures.
- Performing competitor technical product and pricing analysis.
- Developing and implementing marketing strategies for new market segments.
- Ensuring retention and growth of existing clients.
- Engaging and collaborating with engineering and production departments.
- Preparing proposals and tenders for the mining sector.
- Understanding commercial law is advantageous.
- Networking with industry professionals and stakeholders in the mining sector.
- Handling commercial contracts, remedies, and negotiations for deviant conditions.
- Creating opportunities, negotiating, closing deals, and maintaining industry and product knowledge.
- Supporting existing clients to ensure retention.
- Conducting market analysis to identify and promote the company's competitive advantages.
- Traveling to mines and conducting underground visits to assess problems and suitability of mining machinery.
Requirements
- 5+ years proven experience as a Business Development Manager.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Proven engineering experience.
- Product data management experience.
- Ability to plan, multitask, and manage time effectively.
- Strong report writing and record-keeping skills.
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
