Job summary

Stellenbosch University on the Stellenbosch Campus invites applications for a Business Architect (Post Level 8) within the Information Technology division. The role contributes to digital transformation by documenting and aligning people, processes, technology and data to enable growth and efficiency.

The incumbent will participate in architecture governance, produce artifacts, and collaborate with stakeholders to develop roadmaps that reduce costs, simplify processes, and drive innovation

Qualifications

• Two+ years producing and contextualising business architecture artifacts.
• Experience with architecture principles and standards.
• Five+ years as business analyst or equivalent with requirements analysis.
• Two+ years in higher education.
• Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration.
• Knowledge of business architecture frameworks and IT trends.
• Flexible in fast-paced environments with shifting roles.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring that job descriptions, work agreements and PDPs are aligned with duties.
• Participating in regular check-ins with the line manager and the Director of Institutional Architecture.
• Working closely with the Lead Business Architect to identify, align and improve the Business and Institutional Architecture objectives and outputs as defined for the portfolio.
• Ensuring adherence to architecture governance requirements and that relevant items serve at the various architecture governing bodies.
• Assisting with the documentation of business or other architecture artifact and outputs.
• Assisting with the regular review of the business or other architecture artifacts and outputs.
• Adhering to the Institutional Architecture quality assurance metrics in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Identifying business or other architecture risks.
• Assisting with the implementation and oversight of the ICT Institutional Business continuity, Disaster Recovery and Communication plan (Regulation, Playbook and Pocketbooks) for the business architecture domain.
• Participating in policy changes, workgroups, committees and other bodies within SU and externally as required.
• Adhering to SU and IT requirements defined for other practices or capabilities managed by other IT directors.

The Focus Of The Institutional Architecture Portfolio Is To Assess And Align The Institution's Health By Illustrating And Describing The Interconnectedness Of People, Processes, Technology And Other Systems, Through a Unified, Accurate Source Of Information To Enable Relevant Role Players To:

• optimise, enable digital transformation;
• ensure that technology investments support academic and administrative priorities;
• identify opportunities for simplification.

The Business Architect Will Play a Key Role In Assisting The Lead Business Architect By Identifying, Documenting, Illustrating And Contextualising The Institution's Interconnectedness Of People, Processes, Technology And Other Systems To Enable The Relevant Role Players To Work Towards:

• operational efficiency;
• reducing cost and promote simplification;
• developing a roadmap and runway for growth and innovation.

Duties/Pligte

Business Architecture Portfolio Participation:

• Ensuring that job descriptions, work agreements and PDPs are aligned with duties.
• Participating in regular check-ins with the line manager and the Director of Institutional Architecture.

Assisting with the definition and maturity of the Architecture portfolio:

• Working closely with the Lead Business Architect to identify, align and improve the Business and Institutional Architecture objectives and outputs as defined for the portfolio.

Business Architecture Artifacts, Outputs, Reviews, Governance And Architecture Risks:

• Ensuring adherence to architecture governance requirements and that relevant items serve at the various architecture governing bodies.
• Assisting with the documentation of business or other architecture artifact and outputs.
• Assisting with the regular review of the business or other architecture artifacts and outputs.
• Adhering to the Institutional Architecture quality assurance metrics in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Identifying business or other architecture risks.

Participating In Related Business And IT Functions And Processes:

• Assisting with the implementation and oversight of the ICT Institutional Business continuity, Disaster Recovery and Communication plan (Regulation, Playbook and Pocketbooks) for the business architecture domain.
• Participating in policy changes, workgroups, committees and other bodies within SU and externally as required.
• Adhering to SU and IT requirements defined for other practices or capabilities managed by other IT directors.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

• NQF7 in computer science, information systems, business management or equivalent accredited certifications.
• Experience in Agile or other delivery methodologies.
• At least two years' or more work experience in producing, contextualising business architecture artifacts and outputs and experience with architecture principles and standards, OR at least five years' or more work experience as a business analyst or equivalent with experience in requirements analysis, process mapping and optimisation, capability modelling, and planning and prioritisation.
• More than two years' experience in higher education.
• Flexibility in a fast-paced dynamic environment with shifting roles and responsibilities.
• Demonstrable ability to evaluate options and applying them to complex institutional problems.
• Effective written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of business architecture frameworks and standards.
• A broad understanding of information technology topics and trends.
