Job Title : Business Analyst

Reporting to : Client Liaison Officer Seniority Level : Mid-Career (4 - 6 yrs exp) Regions : FreeState Type : Temporary

Purpose of the Role

To support the Refinery in maximizing profitability through structured optimization within established governance models and processes. The role involves cross-functional collaboration within the Business Unit (BU) to align Shareholder requirements with available resourcesconsidering supply agreements, capacity, availability, efficiency, and service levelsto sustainably optimize refinery performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the Economic Model with daily pricing and market indicators.
  • Assist in developing and managing the Plan vs Actual tracking, monitoring, and reporting dashboard.
  • Support the restoration and upkeep of Blending Performance Dashboards.
  • Assist with the restoration of Unit Performance Dashboards.
  • Prepare documentation and insights for Weekly Assurance Meetings.
  • Compile and submit content for Monthly Planners Meetings.
  • Handle the preparation and submission of all Refinery reports.
  • Provide weekly status updates for SVP-level communication.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualifications : Bachelors degree in engineering (Chemical or Industrial Engineering)
  • Experience : Minimum 3 to 4 years of relevant experience in a production, operations, business analysis, or process optimization environment.
  • Prior exposure to refining operations or petrochemical industry is highly advantageous.
  • Experience in data analysis, economic modelling, and dashboards is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams.
  • Certifications / Professional Memberships : Not mandatory, but beneficial :
  • Certification in Business Analysis, Data Analytics, or Process Engineering (e.g. CBAP, Lean Six Sigma)
  • Membership with recognized engineering or business analytics bodies (e.g. ECSA, IIBA)
  • Key Competencies and Skills

  • Solid understanding of the refining value chain.
  • Knowledge of process unit operations, including their constraints and flexibilities.
  • Understanding of product blending principles.
  • High level of computer literacy, especially in tools related to data analysis and optimization (e.g. Excel, Power BI, LP Models).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
