Job Advert Summary

Unitrans is seeking to employ Professional Bus Drivers with proven experience. Drives a bus to transport passengers on scheduled services over established routes. Controls lighting, heating, and ventilation for the passengers. Observes prescribed speeds, traffic, and travel conditions, and signals to ensure the safe arrival of passengers. Ensures passengers arrive at destinations on time. Holds the appropriate license and a PrDP.

This category is restricted commercial transport which is not subsidized by the government.

Must have a Public Services Driving License (PG), mastery of defensive and preventive driving techniques, ensuring the safety of both passengers and other road users. You must know and strictly obey traffic laws, avoiding infractions and accidents. Comply with company code of conduct, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualification: Grade 12, job-specific training, and Driver's license categories: CE – G, CE – PG, and C – G.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in the same or similar position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follow WSWPs procedures involved in their activities;
  • Read, understand, and accept the code of conduct;
  • Adhere to Unitrans passenger rules and regulations;
  • Read and understand the driver’s manual;
  • Report near misses, incidents, and property damage even if not involved;
  • Follow HST regulations and policies;
  • Avoid involvement in incidents and accidents when driving;
  • Recognize the importance of safety and practice safe habits;
  • Immediately report any incidents to management;
  • Know all written procedures involved in activities;
  • Inspect the bus for deviations or malfunctions;
  • Record deviations/defects in the checklist and report to supervisor;
  • Depending on the deviation/malfunction, either start the journey or not until resolved;
  • Participate in DSS sessions with supervisor and HST at designated sites;
  • Participate in training;
  • Register passengers on trips;
  • Ensure the vehicle is refueled and kept clean;
  • Record and report events/incidents during trips;
  • Adhere to traffic laws and SMS policy;
  • Complete log books properly and keep activity logs;
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards customers;
  • Do not deviate from routes or operate under influence;
  • Make stops only at authorized locations;
  • Respect signage and speed limits;
  • Remove keys after parking and control ignition responsibility;
  • Start vehicles from inside the cabin;
  • Use wheel chocks after parking;
  • Use seat belts for driver and passengers;
  • Drive with valid license and RAC2 card;
  • Ensure vehicle conservation and report damages;
  • Follow collection times;
  • Avoid overtaking between Unitrans vehicles unless authorized;
  • No stops after passenger unloading unless authorized.
