Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Built Heritage Consultant to join the EC Environment Team in Gauteng, South Africa. This role involves no fieldwork and is conducted in a fully virtual environment with hybrid working between office and home.

You will undertake research, prepare desk-based assessments and heritage statements, and contribute to EIAs and characterisation studies. The role requires strong writing, budgeting and time-management, and independent working capabilities.

Qualifications

• A relevant degree in heritage or related subject.
• Professional body membership or working toward membership.
• Strong written communication and attention to detail.
• Experience with heritage desk-based assessments and statements.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Undertake desk-based research to inform heritage assessments and setting assessments.
• Contribute to technical reports such as desk-based assessments, heritage statements and EIAs.
• Assess and analyse how setting contributes to a heritage asset's significance.
• Manage budgets and workloads to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Operate independently and take responsibility for programmes of work and reporting.
• Liaise with managers, stakeholders and other consultants; engage with consultees.
