COMPANY DESCRIPTION:

Our client is a leading South African meat wholesaler supplying meat and other food products to sectors of the hotel, restaurant and hospitality industries. They are looking for a Branch Accountant to join their Johannesburg team.

JOB DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Daily

  • Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the company
  • Managing debtors department
  • Managing creditors department
  • Overseeing full finance function including sales and admin

Weekly:

  • Approval of weekly supplier payments
  • Approval of weekly wage payments

Monthly:

  • Month end rebate recons
  • Keeping fixed asset register
  • Assisting with stock take process
  • Process of monthly accounting reports
  • Monthly Payroll and relevant taxes
  • Monthly VAT recon

Other:

  • Contract outside services for tax preparation, auditing, banking, investments, and other financial needs as necessary
  • Track the company’s financial status and performance to identify areas for potential improvement
  • Seek out methods for minimizing financial risk to the company
  • Research and analyze financial reports and market trends
  • Provide insightful information and expectations to senior management and shareholders to aid in long-term and short-term decision making
  • Review financial data and prepare weekly, monthly and annual reports
  • Stay up to date with technological advances and accounting software to be used for financial purposes
  • Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the company
  • Understand and adhere to financial regulations and legislation

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Matric
  • Relevant financial qualification

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • More than 3 Years’ experience in a similar position
  • Supply chain / food processing / FMCG industry experience will be beneficial
  • Computer literate
  • Own reliable transport is essential
  • Strong admin skills
