Company Description:

Our client is a leading South African meat wholesaler supplying meat and other food products to sectors of the hotel, restaurant, and hospitality industries. They are looking for a Branch Accountant to join their Johannesburg team.

Job Description / Purpose:

The Branch Accountant will manage the financial operations of the branch, including overseeing the finance department, managing debtors and creditors, and ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Monitor daily financial operations within the company.
  2. Manage debtors and creditors departments.
  3. Oversee full finance functions, including sales and admin.
  4. Approve weekly supplier and wage payments.
  5. Perform month-end rebate reconciliations.
  6. Maintain fixed asset register.
  7. Assist with stock take process.
  8. Prepare monthly accounting reports.
  9. Handle monthly payroll and relevant taxes.
  10. Reconcile VAT monthly.
  11. Contract outside services for tax, auditing, banking, investments, and other financial needs.
  12. Track financial status and performance to identify improvements.
  13. Research and analyze financial reports and market trends.
  14. Provide insights to senior management and shareholders for decision making.
  15. Review financial data and prepare reports.
  16. Stay updated with technological advances and accounting software.
  17. Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures.
  18. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and legislation.
Educational Requirements:
  • Matric
  • Relevant financial qualification
Experience and Skills Required:
  • Over 3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience in supply chain, food processing, or FMCG beneficial
  • Computer literate
  • Own reliable transport
  • Strong administrative skills
