VACANCY NOTICE

POSITION: Bookseller (Hourly)

REPORTING TO: Store Manager

STORE: Shop 36, Brooklyn Mall, Fehrsen St, Nieuw Muckleneuk, Pretoria

Purpose of the job:

As a bookseller, you will receive and unpack stock, categorize books, and merchandise stock for the customer. You will focus on customer service, ensuring the customer receives excellent service by meeting their needs. You will also build your book knowledge daily to develop strong customer relationships and drive sales.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Customer Service: Offer assistance to every customer entering the store with a friendly and positive attitude.
  • Housekeeping: Keep the store clean and tidy.
  • Merchandising: Ensure all window and in-door displays are attractive, eye-catching, and updated every two weeks.
  • Check that bestsellers are in stock and on display.
  • Stock Management: Assist the manager in measuring and controlling shrinkage.
  • Security: Be alert and aware of non-shoppers and shoplifters.
  • Book Knowledge: Constantly build your knowledge of the books in the store.
  • Sales and Upselling: Build relationships with potential customers, upsell, cross-sell, and promote promotions.
  • Recommend substitute and alternative books and other unique products.
  • Sourcing and ordering books for customers using lookup systems.
  • Admin and Control: Manage cash-ups, credit card checks, wage payouts, shortage reports, supplier payouts, attendance, email communication, gift vouchers, etc.
Qualifications:

We seek an energetic, well-presented individual who is physically strong and healthy. A minimum of a matric is required, with retail or sales experience preferred. Candidates with a marketing qualification, degree in English literature, Communications, Journalism, or related fields are encouraged to apply. This role offers exposure to merchandising, promotions, sales techniques, the publishing industry, authors, and more, setting a strong foundation for your future career.
