Bookkeeper Job Description Office National PE

Our client based in Port Elizabeth is seeking a qualified bookkeeper to join their team. The ideal candidate must have excellent attention to detail and a comprehensive understanding of bookkeeping up to and including management accounts.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Financial Record Maintenance: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions, including sales, purchases, payments, and receipts.
  2. Bank Reconciliation: Comparing bank statements with company records to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  3. Accounts Payable and Receivable: Managing invoices, payments, and collections to ensure smooth cash flow.
  4. Payroll Administration: Calculating wages (biometric system), processing payments, and managing payroll taxes.
  5. Financial Reporting: Preparing balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  6. Budgeting and Forecasting: Assisting in financial planning using historical data.
  7. Compliance: Ensuring adherence to tax laws and regulations, including VAT returns and e-filing.
  8. Support to Management: Providing financial insights and responding to inquiries.
  9. Booking in of Stock from Suppliers.
  10. Creditors Age Analysis.

Educational Background

  • A diploma or degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certificates in bookkeeping such as the Certified Bookkeeper (CB) qualification or membership with a professional body like the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and Accountants (ICBA) are advantageous.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in accounting software, particularly IQ RETAIL.
  • Solid knowledge of South African tax laws, VAT, and compliance requirements.
  • Expertise in preparing management accounts only. Financial statements can only be prepared by a person qualified and a member of SAIPA (South African Institute of Professional Accountants).

Work Experience:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles, depending on the level of responsibility required.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication skills for liaising with team members and management.

Optional but Beneficial:

  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial forecasting.
