Job description

We seek to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Bookkeeper/ Payroll Administrator.

Job Overview

The candidate will be responsible for bookkeeping and the managing of payroll operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with South African labour laws and tax regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, strong communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under deadlines.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll

  • Payroll Processing: Accurately prepare and process monthly payroll for all employees, including adjustments, deductions, and overtime calculations;
  • Employee Records Management: Maintain and update employee; payroll records, ensuring all changes are accurately documented and compliant with company policies;
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure payroll processes adhere to South African tax and labour regulations, including SARS submissions, EMP201, UIF, and any stationary reporting requirements;
  • Query Resolution: Address payroll-related queries from employees in a timely and professional manner, ensuring clear and accurate communication;
  • Reconciliation: Perform monthly reconciliations for payroll, benefit, and deductions to maintain data integrity and resolve any discrepancies;
  • Prepare annual salary budget and budget reconciliations;
  • Prepare annual salary increase schedule and communication to employees;
  • Data management: Safeguard sensitive employee information and ensure secure handling of all payroll data.
  • Daily capturing of data to ensure that reporting is accurate and up to date for all entities;
  • Reconciliation of Monthly general ledger;
  • Conducting month end procedures;
  • Processing of journals;
  • Assistance with monthly management accounts;
  • Prepare and submit bank reconciliation – various entities;
  • Processing payments and receipts for fundraising events;
  • Sundry debtor invoicing and collections;
  • Vetting of external service providers;
  • Fixed asset management.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Matric with BCom Accounting Degree;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in payroll administration – preferably Sage 300;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ Bookkeeping experience in a professional or similar environment;
  • Support the Mission, Vision and core values of the School.
