Job description

(Fixed-Term Contract: August – December 2025)

The Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) is seeking a Bookkeeper for a fixed-term contract based at its Johannesburg Head Office, for the period August to December 2025, to be a temporary replacement during a staff member’s leave of absence.

ISASA is a non-profit organisation which serves over 896 independent schools in Southern Africa. These member schools represent a broad spectrum of socio-economic and cultural communities and educational levels, from pre-school to post-matric.

Responsibilities:

The key performance areas of the Bookkeeper include:

  • Administering the monthly ISASA Finances.
    • Allocate and post financial transaction details to the general ledger accounts.
    • Preparing all necessary documentation for monthly financial reports.
    • Balance general ledger accounts by reconciling entries.
      • Debtors and Creditors account reconciliations.
      • Bank reconciliations.
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register.
  • Preparing and sending invoices to debtors.
  • Ensure that receivables are collected promptly.
  • Maintain the petty cash fund.
  • Maintain historical records by filing documents.
  • Ensure all statutory payments are made.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support as requested.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Candidates are required to hold a Matric certificate as well as a tertiary qualification (degree or diploma) in finance.
  • Candidates should have high level computer skills in Word and Excel, a high level of understanding of Pastel and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in bookkeeping is necessary.

Competency Requirements:

  • The successful applicant should have positive interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and under pressure. They should also have good time management skills that ensure deadlines are met.
