Job description

Job Title: Assistant Accountant / Bookkeeper

Location: Firgrove, Somerset West, Western Cape
Type: Full-Time | Office-Based

Hire Resolve's Client are looking for a proactive and detail-driven Bookkeeper who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys full-spectrum bookkeeping and is eager to contribute to a dynamic team that values precision, accountability, and open communication.

You will work closely with the CFO and operations teams to ensure accurate financials, effective cost control, and audit readiness. While you'll be well-supported during onboarding and training, you'll be trusted to take initiative and manage your responsibilities independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full-function bookkeeping up to balance sheet reconciliation
  • Managing accounts payable and receivable, including supplier payments and client collections
  • Handling petty cash, processing costings, and supporting budget management
  • Collaborating with operations teams on job cost tracking and financial reporting
  • Working across platforms including Xero (primary), Simpro, and Zoho
  • Assisting with supplier contract management and internal reporting via Zoho
  • Preparing information for audits and maintaining financial compliance

Requirements:
  • Proven experience in bookkeeping or a similar finance role (minimum 3 years preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero is essential
  • Exposure to Simpro and/or Zoho is advantageous (training provided)
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans (written and spoken) - essential for engaging with clients and workforce
  • Familiarity with job costing within a project-based, engineering, energy, or technical business environment is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general tech-savviness across accounting systems

Work Environment:
  • Located in Firgrove, Somerset West - ideal for candidates residing nearby, as this is not a remote position
  • Collaborative culture with close interaction with the CFO (hands-on, not micro-managed)
  • Use of modern platforms and tools; willingness to learn and adapt is key
