About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Bookkeeper to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing the general ledger up to trial balance, supporting month-end processes, overseeing debtor and creditor functions, and ensuring compliance with statutory and financial reporting requirements. This role plays a critical part in supporting the financial health and operational efficiency of the business.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & General Ledger
  • Maintain accurate financial records and process transactions up to Trial Balance.
  • Prepare and post monthly journals, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Reconcile all general ledger accounts monthly.
  • Ensure subsidiary ledgers (debtors, creditors, bank, stock, and fixed assets) reconcile to the Trial Balance.
  • Balance and reconcile intercompany loan accounts.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial processes.
  • Prepare supporting documentation for audits and respond to audit queries.
  • Investigate and resolve financial variances and discrepancies.
Cashbook, Banking & Payment Administration
  • Maintain accurate cashbooks and process financial transactions.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile credit card accounts and petty cash.
  • Ensure all payments are properly authorised and supported by valid documentation.
  • Process EFT payment runs and maintain payment records.
  • Resolve payment and banking queries timeously.
Accounts Receivable (Debtors)
  • Generate and issue customer invoices.
  • Monitor debtor accounts and maintain accurate records.
  • Reconcile debtor accounts and clearing accounts.
  • Assist with collection efforts and debtor queries.
  • Ensure allocation of payments and account balances are accurate.
Accounts Payable (Creditors)
  • Process supplier invoices and creditor transactions.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and creditor accounts monthly.
  • Verify invoice approvals and supporting documentation.
  • Process supplier-related journals when required.
  • Assist with supplier payment preparations and reconciliations.
Fixed Asset Management
  • Maintain and update the fixed asset register.
  • Record asset acquisitions, disposals, and transfers.
  • Calculate and process monthly depreciation.
  • Ensure assets are accurately classified and recorded.
Statutory Compliance & Tax Administration
  • Prepare and submit VAT201 returns.
  • Assist with statutory submissions and enquiries.
  • Support compliance with SARS and relevant financial legislation.
  • Maintain supporting records for statutory audits and inspections.
Financial Systems & Reporting
  • Maintain integrity of financial systems and data.
  • Generate monthly financial reports and supporting schedules.
  • Assist in improving financial processes and controls.
  • Support reporting requirements for management and stakeholders.
  • Manage vendor claims and rebate reconciliations.
Payroll & Administrative Support
  • Assist with payroll input preparation and payroll-related administration.
  • Maintain and organise financial documentation.
  • Prepare reports, schedules, and presentations as required.
  • Respond professionally to internal and external finance queries.
  • Support office administration and procurement activities where required.
Records Management & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate filing and archiving systems.
  • Ensure financial records are retained in accordance with company policies and legislation.
  • Develop efficient document retrieval processes.
  • Ensure secure storage and management of confidential financial information.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
  • ICB Financial Accounting Diploma, NQF Level 5/6, or equivalent Bookkeeping qualification.
  • Relevant accounting or finance qualification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
  • Experience using accounting software such as Sage, Xero, or similar ERP/accounting systems.
Experience
  • 2-3 years' experience in a Bookkeeping, Finance, or Accounting role.
  • Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and Trial Balance.
  • Experience with VAT submissions and financial reporting.
Technical Skills
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Working knowledge of Sage, Xero, or similar accounting systems.
  • General ledger management.
  • Bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • VAT and taxation knowledge.
  • Financial reporting and month-end procedures.
