Job description
Job Title: Bookkeeper
Location: KwaZulu-Natal, Durban
Deadline: May 23, 2025
Responsibilities
Monthly PTB Review:
Analyze General Ledger accounts for accuracy, completeness, and validity, using Qdocs for cross-reference.
Capture journal entries to correct misallocations and update account balances.
Note variances or concerns on the Chairman Pack report and escalate to the Portfolio Manager.
Advise on insolvent schemes.
Update municipal reconciliations monthly.
Escalate insurance claims, petty cash, and legal fee inquiries monthly.
Record PTB distribution date on building control schedule monthly.
Budget Preparation and Loading:
Prepare the annual budget using the Trafalgar template and Budget Questionnaire.
Cross-reference financial info using Unibase reports and Qdocs invoices.
Load the trustee or AGM-approved budget on Unibase promptly after receipt.
Taxation:
Prepare and submit the annual income tax return referencing audited financials.
Prepare and submit VAT returns monthly or bi-monthly, referencing relevant reports.
Quarterly, request SARS statements and ensure all returns and payments are up to date.
Annual Audit File Preparation:
Scrutinize the general ledger for accuracy and completeness; resolve debtors/creditors issues and confirm Balance Sheet items.
Copy audit reports and attachments to CD and circulate to the auditor promptly.
Review of Audited Financial Statements:
Resolve audit queries timely with the help of the Portfolio Manager and Trustees.
Scrutinize draft AFS and investigate related audit journals.
Distribute approved AFS to the Portfolio Manager.
Pass and agree on audit adjustments on Unibase after approval.
General:
Review emails daily and resolve queries within 24 hours when possible.
Update building control schedules daily to reflect the financial status.
Qualifications & Experience
Graduate tertiary qualification in finance or accounting.
Minimum two years' experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
Audit background (advantage).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of ST Act, Companies Act, Income Tax Act, and VAT Act.
Understanding of basic accounting principles.
Ability to interpret sectional plans.
Experience in accounting or financial services roles.
