Purpose of Position:
- Lay out, fit and fabricate metal components.
- Assemble structural forms, such as construction of conveyors, platforms, structures, trolleys, and any manufacturing according to drawings.
- Work involves using cutting torches, Tig, stick, and Mig welding.
- Must have the ability to use any hand and power tools, and the ability to read and use all measuring equipment.
- Read and work according to engineering drawings.
- Perform surface preparation prior to welding and construct jigs with close tolerances.
- Construct, assemble, maintain, and repair any structural forms according to blueprints or verbal instructions.
- Carry out inspections on any work performed.
- Develop and fabricate all kinds of shapes and equipment, such as Square to round, Lobster back, etc.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or N3.
- Boilermaker trade.
- 3-5 years' experience as a qualified Boilermaker.
- Valid driver's license and own transport.
- Exposure to conveyors, boiler, and steam systems will be advantageous.
- Willingness to work overtime and standby as required.
Duties:
- Build, install, maintain, and repair plant equipment and systems.
- Read technical diagrams and blueprints.
- Calculate material needed to complete workpieces.
- Cut material to specification and within the given tolerance according to the drawing.
- Bolt or arc weld structures and parts together, using wrenches and welding equipment.
- Examine workpieces for defective welding, weak spots, and repair all defects.
- Lay out material to be used for the construction of equipment, marking it out according to the drawing and tolerances specified.
- Locate and mark all reference points for the various columns or plates using straight edges, squares, and measuring equipment.
- Cut material to size using hand tools, cutting torch, or saws.
- Perform proper welding to workpieces once all parts have been fitted together and ensured they meet specifications.
- Repair and maintain all mechanical equipment.
- Handle and move objects using hands and arms in positioning and moving materials.
- Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or defects.
- Perform activities that require the use of arms and legs, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and stooping while handling materials.
- Observe, receive, and obtain information from relevant sources to complete workpieces.
- Monitor and review information from materials to detect or assess problems.
- Identify information, estimate, and recognize differences or similarities and changes in events to complete workpieces.
Preference will be given to applicants with FMCG experience.
