Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated Researcher in Biotechnology to lead and support research focused on molecular markers in tropical and subtropical fruit trees. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge advancements in molecular breeding, collaborate with growers and government stakeholders, and publish impactful research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate and manage research projects related to molecular markers in fruit trees.
  • Publish research findings and present outcomes at scientific conferences and industry meetings.
  • Mentor and lead research technicians, assistants, and students.
  • Develop molecular tools to support marker-assisted selection in fruit tree breeding programs.
  • Engage with fruit growers, technical officers, and government bodies at both national and provincial levels.

Requirements

  • A PhD in Plant Biotechnology or Molecular Biology is essential.
  • A minimum of three years' experience conducting research on molecular markers in plants within a scientific research environment is required.
  • You should have deep expertise in Plant Biotechnology, specifically in molecular marker technologies.
  • A proven record of at least three scientific publications and presentations at recognized scientific conferences or symposia is mandatory.
  • Collaboration at the national level in research projects or scientific initiatives is expected.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and supervise or co-supervise junior researchers or students is required.
  • The candidate must possess strong strategic and operational planning skills, particularly in managing research workflows or projects.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is necessary.
  • A valid Code EB driver’s license is required.
  • Registration with a scientific or professional body (such as SASBMB, SAAB, etc.) is considered an advantage but not mandatory.
