Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Bioprocess Engineer with a specialization in Fermentation to join their R&D team in Upington, South Africa. The role focuses on the design, development, optimization, and scale-up of microbial fermentation processes for producing valuable compounds.

You will collaborate with microbiologists and chemical engineers to ensure robust biomanufacturing and apply your engineering expertise in a cutting-edge bioprocess development environment, with a hybrid work

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related bioprocess field.
• Minimum 3 years of fermentation process development and scale-up.
• Hands-on experience with fermentation equipment and bioreactor systems.
• Strong understanding of microbial physiology, metabolism, and mass transfer.
• Proficiency in data analysis and process modeling; SPC advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize fermentation processes for microbial production of target products.
• Conduct experiments at laboratory and pilot scales to define optimal operating parameters.
• Develop scale-up strategies from bench to manufacturing.
• Monitor and analyze fermentation data to ensure process performance and product quality.
• Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions to maintain efficiency.
