Introduction
The incumbent will perform specialized virology and molecular reference and confirmatory tests for SANBS and external customers. Responsibilities include validating and classifying NAT and serology yields for publications and presentations, participating in national and international research collaborations, and manufacturing and supplying Virology EQA panels for SANBS and SADC countries.
Key Performance Areas (KPA)
- KPA 1: Provide Input Into The Virology Reference Laboratory (VRL) Business Plan / Maintain Financial Objectives.
Provide input regarding plans and budget requirements, assist in investigating deviations, identify risks and opportunities, and assist the Virology Reference Manager with information for planned projects. - KPA 2: Specialist Operational Objectives.
Identify routine and specialized tests on NAT and serology yield positive samples, perform additional tests including Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT), and maintain NAT and serology yield reports and databases. Co-ordinate testing and manage sample storage. - KPA 3: Total SHEQ.
Contribute to achieving SANAS accreditation standards, manage a system for maintenance and calibration, assist in SOP revisions, and ensure a sterile testing environment. - KPA 4: Research Activities And Technical Expertise.
Provide technical expertise related to VRL test results, train new staff, participate in research initiatives, and maintain a biorepository for international collaborations.
