Job summary

E-merge IT Recruitment is seeking an experienced Senior Data Warehouse & BI Developer to join a leading insurance client’s Data & Analytics team in Johannesburg. You design, develop, and maintain enterprise data warehouses and data lakes that underpin BI, regulatory and financial reporting.

The role demands extensive experience in ETL/ELT, dimensional modelling (Kimball), and BI delivery across cloud and on-prem environments.

Qualifications

• It-related degree or diploma required; professional certifications are advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in data warehousing, ETL/ELT, and dimensional modelling (Kimball).
• Experience with data lake architectures and enterprise data integration recommended.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end data acquisition, ETL, and data management solutions.
• Build and support data pipelines, data lakes, and enterprise data warehouse environments.
• Develop dimensional data models and BI solutions for regulatory, financial, and business reporting.
• Manage data integration, QA, testing, and UAT activities.
• Monitor data acquisition progress, project delivery, and reporting requirements.
• Troubleshoot data and system issues to ensure reliable data delivery.

Our client, a leading organisation in the insurance sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Data Warehouse & BI Developer to join their growing Data and Analytics team. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise data warehouse and data lake solutions that serve as the foundation for business intelligence, regulatory reporting, financial reporting, and enterprise-wide analytics.

This role requires extensive experience in enterprise data architecture, ETL development, dimensional data modelling, and business intelligence reporting, with the ability to build scalable, high-performance data solutions that support strategic and operational decision-making. Experience within the insurance industry is essential, while exposure to modern cloud platforms, big data technologies, and advanced analytics environments will be highly advantageous

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end data acquisition, ETL, and data management solutions.
• Build and support data pipelines, data lakes, and enterprise data warehouse environments.
• Develop dimensional data models and BI solutions to support business, regulatory, and financial reporting.
• Manage data integration, quality assurance, testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT) activities.
• Monitor and report on data acquisition progress, project delivery, and reporting requirements.
• Troubleshoot data and system issues, ensuring reliable and accurate data delivery.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, technical teams, and clients to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
• Contribute to database design, optimization, security, and data governance initiatives.

Qualifications and experience:

• IT-related degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification.
• Relevant Microsoft, Cloud, or data engineering certifications will be advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in data warehousing, data lake implementation, ETL/ELT development, and dimensional modelling using Kimball methodology.
• Experience designing and supporting enterprise data lake architectures and data ingestion frameworks.
• Minimum 5 years' experience developing ETL solutions using SSIS.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in SSRS report development.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in SSAS cube development and MDX.
