Job Summary

This role involves completing processes that ensure the integrity of the Balance Sheet, identifying, evaluating, and reporting risk items to enable management to make informed decisions. Part of this includes providing commentary on Balance Sheet movements for regulators and in briefing notes on external results.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinate External Financial Reporting Risk (FRR) and own the Balance Sheet Attestation Tool (e.g., Consigno) across the Group.
  • Ensure robust FRR governance, including review and consolidation of information for management reports across all clusters and entities.
  • Perform monthly analytical reviews and variance analysis of the Balance Sheet, engaging with business units for insights.
  • Support the Business Unit owner for Consigno and other attestation processes, monitor system performance, and coordinate remedial actions.
  • Provide management with accurate information and high-quality commentary for risk assessments and reporting.
  • Produce management information packs and presentations for risk committees.
  • Monitor and communicate Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) related to financial reporting risks and controls.
  • Engage with external auditors regarding Financial Reporting Risks.

Coordinate Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Balance Sheet Commentary

  • Gather and articulate commentary on Balance Sheet movements for internal and regulatory reporting.

Understand Financial Reporting Processes, Systems, and Controls

  • Develop knowledge of financial reporting systems and policies across the Group.
  • Support compliance and risk management frameworks.

Provide Team Support and Drive Process Improvements

  • Motivate and engage team members, manage resource allocation, and develop capabilities.
  • Ensure process alignment with organizational strategy, implement improvements, and drive efficiencies.

Role/Person Specification

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficiency in financial data analysis tools.
  • Team management experience.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Understanding of financial reporting and controls.
  • Ability to identify control gaps and write effective reports.

Education and Experience

  • CA(SA) qualification.
  • At least 4 years post-qualification experience in finance, preferably in a financial institution.
  • Management experience is advantageous.

Education
