Job summary

Sabenza IT & Recruitment is seeking an Intermediate Backend Engineer in Johannesburg, South Africa. You will design, develop and maintain backend applications using Python and Django, building RESTful APIs and integrations while collaborating with frontend developers, QA and product teams.

You should have strong programming fundamentals, 4+ years of backend experience, and a solid understanding of OOP. Experience with Django REST Framework and cloud/CI pipelines is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (CS/SE/IT)
• 4+ years backend software development experience
• Proven production experience with Python and Django
• Strong understanding of software development principles and OOP

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend applications and services using Python and Django.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and integrations.
• Translate requirements into practical software solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
• Troubleshoot, debug and resolve production issues.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, QA, product and other stakeholders.
• Contribute to testing, deployment and continuous improvement of applications.
• Take ownership of assigned features and deliver them to completion.
