Job summary

E-Merge IT Recruitment is seeking an experienced Backend Developer for a leading South African-based customer experience and business process services organisation with an international footprint. You will join the Technology team to build reliable, scalable C# / ASP.NET core web APIs, leverage SQL Server / Azure SQL, and work with Azure services.

You will collaborate in an agile environment with frontend and AI engineers to deliver high-impact solutions.

Qualifications

• Strong C# / ASP.NET core web API experience.
• Strong SQL expertise: complex queries, schema design, indexing, and query optimisation in SQL Server / Azure SQL.
• Experience building integration-heavy or BFF-style APIs (timeouts, retries, token handling, clear error mapping).
• Solid testing habits (xUnit or similar).
• Comfortable in a fast-moving agile team collaborating with frontend and AI engineers.

This role is ideal for a C# / ASP.NET Backend Developer who enjoys building reliable, scalable solutions and wants to work on a platform that makes a difference. Required skills and experience:

• Strong C# / ASP.NET core web API experience


• Strong SQL expertise: complex queries, schema design, indexing, and query optimisation in SQL Server / Azure SQLEF Core proficiency, with the judgement to write raw SQL when the ORM is not the right tool


• Azure fundamentals: App service (or equivalent), Blob, queues/service bus, identity/secrets


• Experience building integration-heavy or BFF-style APIs (timeouts, retries, token handling, clear error mapping)


• Solid testing habits (xUnit or similar)


• Comfortable in a fast-moving agile team collaborating with frontend and AI engineers

Beneficial experience:

• Experience with Cursor, Claude, or similar AI coding assistants


• Some exposure to AI/LLM APIs or AI-enabled products (helpful, not required)


• Entra ID / OAuth2 / managed identity


• Azure OpenAI or OpenAI API integration


• Bicep and Azure DevOps multi-stage deploys


• Debt-collection / BPO / fintech domain


• Comfort reading React consumers and collaborating on portal API contracts
