Job summary

PathCare in Cape Town is renewing its digital systems and seeks a Spring Boot (Java) and SQL Backend Developer to help build scalable backend services and robust APIs that support clinical decision making.

You will design, develop, test, and deploy enterprise and client-facing applications, collaborate with frontend and mobile teams, maintain secure, well-documented code, and participate in code reviews and architectural documentation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field is required.

Join us for a major systems-renewal project! We areseekinga passionate and skilledSpring Boot (Java)andSQLBackend Developer to join our technical team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in building scalable backend systems and designing robust APIs. You will play a crucial role in designing, developing, testing, and deploying high-quality enterprise and client-facing applications, delivering seamless user experiences and robust backend functionality.

This position will be based in Cape Town, South Africa

Key responsibilities

• Develop andmaintainbackend services usingSpring Boot.
• Design, build, andoptimizeSQL queries, stored procedures, and database structures.
• Build andmaintainRESTful APIsfor internal and external integrations.
• Work closely withfrontendandmobileteams to deliver complete solutions.
• Write high-quality, secure, reusable, and well-documented code that conforms to PathCare standards.
• Participate in code reviews.
• Maintain applicationsandprovidetechnical support.
• Provide detailed estimates of work and ensure features are delivered on time.
• Create andmaintainnecessary software design and architecture documentation.

Key competency requirements

• Solid workingexperiencewithJava 8or higher,Spring boot,RESTfuland/orSOAPservices.
• A strong understanding ofmicroservicesarchitecture.
• ExperiencewithTest Driven Development.
• Experience workingwithSQL/NoSQLdatabases.
• Knowledge ofsecuritybest practices.
• Familiarity withAngularor other frontendframeworks.
• Experience working withMongodatabase.
• ExperienceworkingwithInterSystems IRIS / CacheObjectScript.
• Familiarity with health-orientedprotocols- HL7, DICOM, FHIR, XML.
• Experience working with tools likeGit, Jenkins, docker, flywayandJira.
• Experience withKeycloaksetup and integration.

Personal profile

• Minimum of5 yearspost-qualification relevant experiencerequiredwith abachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.

• Proven delivery record and the ability to work effectively without close supervision.
