Job summary

DVT is a South Africa-based software engineering and cloud platform company seeking an experienced AWS DevOps Engineer to lead the design, automation, security, and reliability of AWS cloud platforms. You will collaborate with engineering teams to enable secure, scalable software delivery and drive continuous improvement across cloud environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in infrastructure, cloud, platform engineering or DevOps.

• Experience designing and managing AWS infrastructure with multiple services.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure across environments.
• Develop and manage IaC using AWS CDK and CloudFormation.
• Design, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Establish and promote DevOps best practices across engineering teams.
• Implement secure cloud solutions aligned with AWS security standards.
• Manage IAM, encryption, key management, secrets and security remediation.
• Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements.

We are looking for a hands-on AWS DevOps Engineer to lead the design, automation, security, and operational excellence of AWS cloud platforms. This role combines cloud infrastructure engineering, DevOps practices, platform reliability, security governance, and technical leadership. You will work closely with engineering teams to enable secure, scalable, and reliable software delivery while driving continuous improvement across cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure across multiple environments.
• Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK and CloudFormation.
• Design, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Establish and promote DevOps best practices across engineering teams.
• Implement secure cloud solutions aligned with AWS security and governance standards.
• Manage IAM, encryption, key management, secrets management, and cloud security remediation.
• Lead incident response, problem management, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
• Support disaster recovery planning and platform resilience initiatives.
• Develop automation tools, scripts, and operational utilities.
• Review infrastructure and application code and contribute to platform modernisation initiatives.
• Mentor engineering teams on AWS, cloud engineering, and DevOps practices.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant experience in Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Systems Administration, Platform Engineering, or DevOps.
• Strong AWS experience within enterprise, startup, or scale-up environments.
• Demonstrated experience operating and supporting production environments at scale.
• Experience designing and managing AWS infrastructure using:

• 5+ years with significant production ownership, strong automation capability, deep AWS operational experience, and evidence of rapid technical progression.

• Blue/Green deployment strategies.
• RDS administration, database migrations, backup and recovery planning.
• Java or other modern programming languages used for automation and tooling.
• Startup or scale-up experience.
• Experience building AWS platforms from the ground up.
• Experience leading cloud transformation or platform modernisation initiatives.
• Experience working with AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude.
