Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Automotive Mechanical Engineer for its Welkom R&D center in the Free State. You will pioneer mechanical designs for future vehicle components, from concept to prototype, and validate through testing and analysis.

The role requires strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, CATIA), experience with FEA/CFD, and a collaborative approach to work with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams. A degree in Mechanical Engineering is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Proven experience in mechanical design within automotive.
• Experience with CAD software and engineering analysis tools (FEA/CFD).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Experience with experimental testing and data acquisition.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design, and develop innovative automotive components and systems.
• Use CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA) for 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
• Perform simulations (FEA/CFD) to assess performance, durability, and manufacturability.
• Develop and execute experimental test plans for prototypes and components.
• Analyze test data and recommend design improvements.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams.
• Research emerging technologies and materials for automotive systems.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders.
