About the Role

Key Responsibilities

Plan, execute, and analyze performance tests on vehicles and individual components (engine, transmission, suspension, brakes). Utilize sophisticated data acquisition systems and simulation tools to gather and interpret performance data. Develop and refine engine control strategies, transmission calibration, and chassis tuning for optimal performance and drivability. Collaborate with design and development teams to translate performance targets into actionable design changes. Conduct competitive benchmarking to identify performance advantages and areas for improvement. Troubleshoot and resolve performance-related issues, ensuring vehicles meet or exceed targets. Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations for management and stakeholders. Stay current with advancements in automotive performance technology, including electrification and alternative fuels. Ensure all testing procedures comply with safety regulations and industry standards.

Requirements

Master's degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering, or a closely related field. At least 8 years of experience in automotive performance engineering, with a focus on powertrain and vehicle dynamics. Demonstrated expertise in engine dynamometer testing, vehicle testing, and data acquisition systems (e.g., AVL, dSPACE, Vector). Proficiency in calibration tools and techniques for engines and transmissions. Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics. Experience with simulation software for performance modeling is a plus. Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly. A genuine passion for performance vehicles and motorsport is highly desirable. Must hold a valid South African driver's license and be comfortable with hands-on vehicle work.
