Job summary

Placements24 in Durban seeks an Automation Mechanical Engineer to design, implement, and maintain automated mechanical systems across manufacturing lines. You will optimize processes, improve safety, and drive reliability through mechanical automation, working with controls and maintenance teams to meet project goals.

Requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics and hands-on experience with robotics, pneumatics, hydraulics, servo systems, and 3D CAD; PLC integration is a plus.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
• Proven experience designing and implementing industrial automation systems.
• Knowledge of robotics, pneumatics, hydraulics and servo systems.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software and design practices.
• Experience with PLC integration and industrial communication is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and integrate mechanical automation systems for manufacturing processes.
• Select motors, actuators, sensors, and robotics for automated solutions.
• Collaborate with controls engineers to integrate mechanical with PLC/HMI interfaces.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical failures in automated equipment; minimize downtime.
• Conduct performance testing and validation to meet project objectives.
• Develop and maintain schematics, manuals, and maintenance procedures.
