Purpose of the Job
The Automation Engineer is responsible for performing instrumentation activities, software programming, and maintenance assistance in the plant.
The Automation Engineer will also play a crucial role in the digitization and automation of the plant.
Key Performance Areas
- Ensure manufacturing process PLC and other automation programs are in place for planned orders prior to the production start date.
- Drive the closure of identified gaps from manufacturing process documentation and PLC program reviews.
- Complete all assigned capital projects in accordance with project management best practices.
- Complete all developmental projects (e.g., projects from PD).
- Complete approved plant improvement initiatives for planned and current orders.
- Provide first-line support for operations/production.
- Conduct operational studies to improve challenges, aligning with business plan priorities, and translate operational requirements into specifications.
- Offer automation and PLC support and process support within the designated area.
- Develop strategies to optimize automated processes and methods.
- Map current operational processes and develop optimal programs.
- Collaborate with functional leaders to increase productivity, reduce operating costs, maximize efficiency, and manage human capital effectively.
- Coordinate quality control objectives and activities to resolve service problems, maximize reliability, and minimize costs.
- Communicate with management and user personnel to develop automated processes and efficiency standards.
- Design and generate reports to identify performance improvement opportunities.
- Create and deliver presentations on recommended solutions and alternatives for initiatives.
- Manage the CAPEX process, including safety, planning, budgeting, design, execution, and reporting, to ensure optimal ROI.
Qualifications
- BSc / BEng in Electrical, Computer Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- At least 3 years' PLC programming experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Deep understanding of control and instrumentation activities and drawings.
- Experience in instrumentation projects and software programming.
- Good planning, integration, and resource management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Excellent communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
- Attention to detail, planning, and administrative skills.
- Knowledge of Siemens S7 Programming (TIA Portal: Step 7 and WinCC).
- Experience with Citect Scada and HMI development.
- Variable Speed Drives Programming experience.
- Flexibility and adaptability in changing environments.
- Ability to learn company systems and apply work methods effectively.
- Problem-solving skills and team management abilities.
- Ability to evaluate problems and make justified decisions with technical backing.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and their application in design.
- Teamwork and leadership skills in managing engineering teams.
