Job description

We are seeking experienced Electrical / Automation Technicians to assist Electrical and Project Engineers by carrying out various electrical project work, maintenance tasks, technical investigations, and management tasks.

As an Electrical / Automation Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring equipment uptime, calibration, and optimization of all electrical, electronic, and instrumentation equipment used to serve Sappi, such as PLCs, AC and DC Drives, DCS, protection equipment, measuring equipment, communication equipment, controllers, SLCs, UPSs, battery chargers, and other electrical equipment.
  • Assisting with solving plant problems beyond the trained knowledge of Artisans and Foremen to reduce downtime, making decisions using specialized techniques and measuring equipment.
  • Fault finding and repair on equipment up to card level, depending on spare availability.
  • Reporting problems to supervisors, investigating causes, researching solutions, and recommending effective and economical fixes.
  • Managing and executing preventative and improvement tasks with support from maintenance personnel or contractors.
  • Ensuring compliance with engineering standards, inspecting, and commissioning plant modifications.
  • Updating documentation according to Ngodwana Management of Change procedures.
  • Gathering information from equipment suppliers and transferring knowledge through manuals, including manual checks and on-the-job training.
  • Researching new technologies, advising on methods and systems, and monitoring installations.
  • Compiling scope of work, cost calculations, and follow-up on punch lists for new equipment.
  • Identifying training needs and equipment requirements for Artisans and Foremen.
  • Submitting reports on section activities.

**Qualifications and Experience:**

  • NQF6: N. Diploma or equivalent
  • SAP knowledge is advantageous
  • National Diploma
  • Heavy industry experience – 3 years
