Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Automation and Control Systems Engineer for a hybrid role in Polokwane. You will design, implement, and support PLC, HMI, and SCADA solutions for diverse industrial clients.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics and at least five years' experience with Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, WinCC or FactoryTalk View, plus familiarity with I/O, drives, and motion control. Travel to client sites is required.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in industrial automation and control systems engineering.
• Proven experience programming major PLC brands (Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000).
• Strong skills in HMI/SCADA software development (WinCC, FactoryTalk View).
• Understanding of industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP).
• Knowledge of electrical schematics and control panel design.
• Experience with variable speed drives and servo systems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Willingness to travel to client sites.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement PLC and HMI solutions for industrial automation projects.
• Program PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron) and develop user-friendly HMI interfaces.
• Configure and implement SCADA systems for process monitoring and control.
• Integrate sensors, actuators, drives, and robots in automation systems.
• Develop and maintain electrical control panel designs and schematics.
• Conduct system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting on-site and remotely.
• Provide technical support and client training.
• Collaborate with project managers and other engineering disciplines to ensure project success.
• Stay updated with advancements in automation technology and control systems.
• Document all aspects of automation system design, programming, and implementation.
