PKF Cape Town is looking for an Audit Manager to join their team in 2026!

Duties and responsibilities

Audit engagements responsibilities:

  • Responsible for a portfolio of audits (planning phase to lock down)
  • Preparing yearly audit budgets (fair budget to manage the audit) and budget for submission to client;
  • Manage work in progress and be proactive in discussing extensions in budgets with the partner and client;
  • Be proactive in recovery of overruns;
  • Assist partner with invoicing of clients and collection of payment.
  • If necessary, an audit manager will be required to assist audit teams to perform audit work;
  • On-the-job training of trainees;
  • Tracking the progress of the engagement
  • Considering the capabilities and competence of individual members of the engagement team, whether they have sufficient time to carry out their work, understand their instructions, and that the work is carried out in accordance with the planned approach to the engagement
  • Addressing significant issues arising during the engagement, considering their significance, and modifying the planned approach appropriately; and
  • Identifying matters for consultation or consideration by more experienced engagement team members during the engagement.
  • Responsible for a cluster of trainees;
  • Responsible for SAICA assessment procedures
  • Prepare and facilitate client meetings and presentations
  • Ensure adherence to quality control standards and continues improvement

  • Timesheet approval (Including expenses)
    • Monitor the non-billable hours on the timesheet
    • Review the timesheet control (excel)
  • Ensure that the trainee made arrangements for the upcoming audits as per Planner
  • Monitor trainee SAICA core hours
  • Monitor trainees list of outstanding work (update of excel schedule)
  • Monitor Availability list of the trainees
  • Monitor the exposure of the trainee to ensure that the trainee has sufficient exposure throughout the year
  • Leave approval if the trainee is not allocated on an engagement
  • Monitor and motivate trainee in terms of their academics
  • Bi-Monthly Office discussion
  • Training needs
  • Planner:
    • Ensure that sufficient resources have been allocated for engagements
    • Managing of timing of engagements
  • Performance appraisal process
  • Mentor for the trainee / Build a relationship with the trainee
  • Assist the trainee with audit queries that are directly for the partner (Additional on-the-job training)
  • Ensure that all trainees are working effectively
  • Identify any problems that perhaps need to be escalated to other departments, such as HR
    • Late coming
  • Continued availability
  • Assist the trainee with tips and tricks that you have learned over the years, such as time management
  • Motivate the trainees to attend the work functions
  • Be a leader/example to the trainee
  • Go to person for everything (this can sometimes mean getting involved with their personal life matters where it has an impact on the working environment)
Requirements
  • Eligible to register as a CA(SA) or registered CA(SA)
  • Completed a 3-year SAICA Training contract
  • Working knowledge of CaseWare, Excel, Word, Pastel, Microsoft Outlook.
  • Experience in GreatSoft would be an advantage
  • Experience in compilations, reviews and audits.
  • Academic/Technical Knowledge: IFRS, IFRS for SMEs, VAT, Income Tax, Companies Act, Auditing Standards
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Own transport, a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel. (Beneficial but not a prerequisite)
