Job summary

SNG Grant Thornton in Gauteng is seeking a CA(SA) with 2-3 years post articles to lead audit engagements, plan, execute and finalise assignments and develop staff. You will review audit allocations, supervise trainees and ensure deadlines are met, while upholding quality controls and client service standards.

The role emphasizes mentoring, performance reviews with engagement partners, and contributing to the firm’s growth and financial viability through effective budgeting, project management

Qualifications

• CA(SA) qualification is required.
• 2-3 years’ experience post articles.
• Familiarity with SAICA standards and IFRS.

Responsibilities

• Ensure prompt reporting and that all deadlines are being achieved.
• Review the allocation of audits to staff and clarity of duties.
• Review composition of audit teams.
• Complete relevant PR sections and discuss reports with staff.
• Ensure trainee accountants complete TSR/PSR/ER as applicable.
• Provide consistent supervision and guidance to trainees.
• Coach, train and develop auditing staff to upgrade knowledge.
• Complete manager’s performance evaluation and discuss with engagement partner.
• Mentor staff and implement consequence management for quality standards.
• Identify client needs for additional services and bring to engagement director.
• Ensure full compliance with quality control processes.
• Review risks at planning stage and materiality levels.
• Ensure AFS tie back to audit file sheets and accounting policies IFRS.
• Achieve team and individual budgets and business plan/performance objectives.
• Create client projects in Maconomy ahead of job commencement.
• Provide engagement director with cash flow forecast.
• Billing and collection of invoices for your portfolio.
• Review and approve leave applications of mentees.
• Take a leadership role in professional, business or community organizations.
• Assist with marketing projects such as graduate recruitment.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Ensure prompt reporting and that all deadlines are being achieved.
• Review the allocation of audits to members of staff ensuring that they understand their duties.
• Review composition of audit teams.
• Complete the relevant sections of the PR’s for all team members and discuss reports with them.
• Ensure that the trainee accountant has completed a TSR, PSR and ER (as relevant in the circumstances) for the assignment in concern.
• Consistent supervision and guidance of trainees on a regular basis to perform the audit work required to complete a file in support of the audit opinion and to achieve competencies as required by SAICA.
• Coach, train and develop auditing staff to upgrade their knowledge-both on the job on assignments as well as in the office environment.
• Complete manager’s performance evaluation and discuss with the engagement partner.
• Mentoring of staff.
• Implement consequence management processes in the event that the trainee accountant transgresses the firm’s quality standards or commits a disciplinable offence.
• Identify client needs requiring additional services and bring these to the attention of the engagement director.
• Full compliance with the quality control processes of the firm.
• Review of the risks identified at the planning stage and the materiality levels to ensure that the audit is directed towards the appropriate areas.
• Ensure that the afs are ticked up and tie back to the audit file lead sheets and all accounting policies in the afs are in accordance with IFRS/ the applicable reporting framework.
• Achieve team and individual budgets and business plan/ performance objectives.
• Create client projects on maconomy timeously (recommended that code is created at least a week in advance of the job commencement).
• Provide engagement director with cash flow forecast on own portfolio timeously.
• Billing and collection of invoices with respect to your portfolio.
• Review and approve all leave applications of your mentees.
• Takes a leadership role in professional, business or community organizations.
• Assist with marketing projects e.g. graduate recruitment, other marketing initiatives
