Sanlam Life and Savings (SLS) focuses on serving retail and corporate clients in South Africa, developing strategic advantages in the market. SLS comprises business units such as Retail Mass, Corporate, Risk and Savings, Glacier, and supporting functions. The SLS Office provides strategic direction, coordination, and governance oversight, including assurance from second-line functions, to meet business objectives.

Main Responsibilities

Data Modelling

• Designs database schemas, data models, and ETL processes.
• Uses data modelling tools like Erwin, Power Designer, ER/Studio.
• Independently designs Data Models and Raw Vaults, documents Business Vaults.
• Uses Visio or ER/Studio effectively for modelling.
• Collaborates with stakeholders to design Raw Vault data models using DV.
• Manages business glossary and metadata for data discovery and reuse.
• Works with developers and scrum teams to review and deploy vaults across environments.
• Ensures data completeness, consistency, and accuracy through automation and data debugging.

Technical Responsibilities

• Translates business requirements into specific data needs, identifying sources and tools.
• Builds and implements technical solutions.
• Writes scripts in SQL, Python, etc., and uses various tools for data analysis and modeling.
• Automates testing processes, defines UAT tests, and seeks automation improvements.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Engages with Business and Developers to bridge requirements and solutions.
• Communicates complex findings effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

What will make you successful in this role?

Qualifications

• IT qualification (Diploma/Degree in statistics, data, computer science, or engineering) recommended.
• Experience in data modelling, warehousing, analysis, and profiling.
• Business or Systems Analyst certification is advantageous.

Knowledge and Experience

• Over 2 years of experience in data modelling or data warehouse development.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, Hadoop (preferred), Kimball or Data Vault methodologies, SQL.
• Understanding of BI and Data Warehousing lifecycle.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage priorities.
• Financial services experience is a plus.
• Analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with multiple data sources and databases.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies, SharePoint, JIRA, Confluence.
