The Faculty of Pharmacy invites suitable candidates to join their Pharmaceutical Chemistry team.
Formal courses leading to a degree in Pharmacy at Rhodes University began in 1956, evolving into the Department of Pharmacy within the Faculty of Science, and later becoming the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 1980, it was established as a Faculty of Pharmacy, the only one in South Africa. The university has a longstanding history with pharmacy education, dating back to 1929.
The Faculty moved to its current premises in 1988, equipped with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities.
The profession of Pharmacy is dynamic, focusing on patient-centered care while maintaining a scientific base to optimize outcomes. The Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) program at Rhodes covers the minimum curriculum required by the South African Pharmacy Council, including internships in various settings, CPD, and pre-registration exams for registration as a pharmacist and subsequent practice in diverse sectors.
Postgraduate opportunities exist for careers in clinical, industrial, and academic pharmacy, with further specialization possible through advanced studies.
Academics are responsible for teaching, research, community engagement, and contributing to their profession through administrative and leadership roles.

Grade AP: R936,120 basic salary, approximately R1,203,447 total package.
Grade SL: R783,243 basic salary, approximately R1,013,469 total package.
