Introduction

The Faculty of Health Sciences at UJ seeks to appoint a senior lecturer in Optometry who will contribute to teaching, research, and CPD development, aligned with the university's vision, mission, and goals.

The successful candidate will undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision, contribute to curriculum development, and engage in community outreach and CPD activities.

Responsibilities
  1. Maintain high-quality teaching across various modules for undergraduate and postgraduate students through lectures, clinics, practicals, and supervision.
  2. Participate actively in departmental research, producing outputs such as journal publications.
  3. Review and innovate teaching and assessment methods within Optometry.
  4. Engage in departmental activities like academic administration, course development, consulting, and community projects.
  5. Assist in developing and revising modules, courses, and programs.
  6. Support and advise students, referring them for further help as needed.
  7. Develop research methods that contribute to the field's knowledge base.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • PhD/DPhil in Optometry (NQF Level 10).
  • At least five years of teaching experience in higher education in Optometry.
  • Registration with HPCSA in the relevant field.
  • Proven research record with publications in DHET accredited journals.
  • Experience with blended teaching methods and postgraduate supervision.
  • Strong commitment to research-led teaching and innovation.
  • Experience in securing external research funding.
