Job description

Our client, a leading Investment bank, is seeking an Associate Principal to join their growing team.

The successful candidate will assist with conceptualizing, identifying, developing, and executing profitable long-term debt, preference share, and quasi-equity solutions in South Africa and across Africa. The role involves collaboration with internal and external clients and stakeholders, including alliance partners.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Origination and Cross-Sell: Support client and deal origination targets by:
    • Identifying potential new clients and transaction opportunities.
    • Demonstrating innovative thinking and creativity.
  2. Cross-Selling: Take a leading role by:
    • Identifying opportunities within IB teams such as Debt Finance, Corporate Finance, Markets, and Transaction Banking.
  3. Manage Internal Processes: Ensure regulatory compliance through sanctions checks and adherence to policies (FICA, KYC, etc.).
  4. Execute Credit/IC Approval: Support structuring, rating, pricing, and analysis of clients/deals, and collaborate on credit/IC applications.
  5. Risk Management: Conduct client site visits, annual credit reviews, and performance assessments in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  6. Deal Origination Improvement: Provide multidisciplinary solutions, resolve work problems, and enhance coverage and client delivery.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (Hons) in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Legal, Business Science, or related fields.
  • Minimum 6-8 years of banking or relevant sector experience, with a strong background in lending, leveraged finance, or corporate lending.
Technical/Professional Knowledge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of the company's culture, policies, vision, and strategy.
  • Knowledge of financial management, project management, relevant regulations, and systems.
