Job Description

The opportunity: You as an Associate Inspection & Testing Engineer will be part of Hitachi Energy's High Voltage business based in Modderfontein, South Africa.

You will be part of Power Grids automation, reporting to the production and test manager.

You will conduct functional testing of protection and control schemes to ensure cost-effective execution of project deliverables according to customer specifications. As an associate test engineer, you will ensure all schemes are delivered with Hitachi Energy quality standards, within schedule, and adhere to safety requirements during factory functional testing and factory acceptance testing (FAT) phases.

How you'll make an impact

• Supporting Test Engineers with product and system testing, preparing standard test procedures, and completing test documentation, while adhering to safety standards during duties and factory acceptance testing with customers.
• Following work plans and cost estimates, ensuring quality and timely implementation within targeted costs.
• Supporting risk assessments to ensure safe systems of work and taking appropriate actions.
• Using standard processes and tools; assisting commissioning engineers on site as needed.

Your background

• A bachelor's or national diploma degree in electrical or power engineering is required.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience, with at least 2+ years in functional testing of protection, control, and substation automation systems.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
• Basic knowledge of power systems and substations, protection relays, and testing tools like Test Universe is highly desirable.
• Ability to grasp new or unfamiliar concepts quickly and manage complexity effectively.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
