  • An Associate role has become available in the Employment department at the Johannesburg offices of ENS. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading employment law team, offering a dynamic work environment and exposure to diverse matters and clients.

The ideal candidate should be achievement-oriented, focused, able to work independently and under pressure in a deadline-driven environment, without compromising work quality or standards.

Overview

The work involves all aspects of employment law, both litigious and consulting/advisory.

The successful candidate will work closely with clients and manage various matters, developing excellent litigation and commercial drafting skills. The candidate must be hard-working, possess good interpersonal skills, and exercise sound judgment as required.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Drafting documents such as pleadings, affidavits, agreements, and correspondence
  2. Researching law and providing legal opinions
  3. Attending consultations with clients and counsel
  4. Representing clients at Labour Court and CCMA proceedings
  5. Managing all aspects of proceedings, including evidence collation and witness consultations
  6. Practice management tasks, including file management and fee recovery
  7. Liaising with opposing attorneys
  8. Building and maintaining relationships with clients and potential clients
Skills, Abilities, and Experience
  • Admitted attorney in South Africa with a strong academic record
  • 1-2 years post-articles experience in employment law
  • Knowledge of civil litigation procedures
  • Willingness to travel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Consistently high-quality work output
  • Understanding client needs, effective communication, and client relationship management are essential
  • Willingness to work outside normal hours when necessary
