A leading HR and recruitment firm is seeking an Assistant Winemaker for a prominent winery in Paarl. The successful candidate will assist the head winemaker in daily cellar activities, manage a team, and ensure quality control of wines produced. This role requires a relevant degree in Viticulture and Oenology, coupled with a passion for winemaking and knowledge of the industry.

Qualifications

  • BScAgric or BAgric in Viticulture and Oenology is required.
  • Must be fluent in Afrikaans and English.
  • Valid driving licence needed and capability to drive a forklift.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head winemaker with daily cellar activities.
  • Manage the cellar team and perform quality control.
  • Handle inventory control and certification administration.

Job description

Assistant Winemaker position available in Paarl.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the head winemaker with daily cellar activities to ensure that the best possible wines are produced.
  • Manage the cellar team alongside the head winemaker.
  • Perform quality and hygiene control.
  • Responsible for administration regarding SAWIS, IPW certification, FSA audit, BMV and 5-S.
  • Inventory control.
  • Assist at wine fairs and festivals.
  • Assist at wine club events.
  • Handle competition entry administration.
  • Any other wine-related activities.

Requirements:

  • BScAgric or BAgric Viticulture and Oenology (Stellenbosch University or Elsenburg Agricultural College).
  • Relevant experience in a cellar will strengthen your application.
  • Good wine knowledge.
  • Fluent in Afrikaans and English.
  • Passionate team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driving licence is a requirement.
  • Must be able to drive a forklift.
  • Must be available to work on weekends and public holidays when required (especially during harvest).
