Job Description

An Assistant / Trainee Laboratory Manager is responsible for assisting with accreditation and ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations within the laboratory environment.

  • Verify that correct test methods are followed and report any deviations to the relevant reporting manager.
  • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
  • Assist technicians with tasks on-site or inside the laboratory as instructed by the authorized site supervisor or laboratory manager.
  • Perform other reasonable tasks assigned by the authorized site supervisor, laboratory manager, or regional manager.
  • Ensure continuous operation of all functions as per procedure in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
  • Support the Laboratory Manager in administrative duties such as payroll instructions and leave forms.
  • Provide training to reporting staff as needed.

Qualifications

Relevant National Diploma or NQF 6 / Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent, or skills and experience recognized through Recognition of Prior Learning.

  • Driver's License.
  • Relevant National Diploma with ten years of relevant experience, or NQF 6 with ten years of relevant experience, or Grade 12 with three years of relevant experience, or NQF 4 with fifteen years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with all Civil Engineering Test Methods under THM1 and SANS.
