Kendrick Recruitment is seeking an Assistant Technical Manager to support maintenance across luxury lodges, staff villages and reserve infrastructure in KwaZulu-Natal.

This hands-on role requires technical expertise, excellent organisational skills and the ability to drive world-class upkeep, sustainability initiatives, budgeting, supplier coordination and staff development. Live-in position, salary negotiable.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years’ experience in maintenance management or technical support within a similar sized operation.
• Qualification/experience in electrical, refrigeration or air‑conditioning.
• Demonstrable expertise in plumbing, sewage and water treatment, building and general maintenance.
• Valid unendorsed South African driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Advise and assist on lodge, staff village, and reserve maintenance (preventative and daily breakdown).
• Support monthly maintenance budgets and annual CAPEX planning.
• Communicate daily with lodge managers on maintenance requirements and project progress.
• Assist with administration and stock control of supplies and tools.
• Help train plumbers, carpenters, electricians, painters, and general maintenance staff.
• Support HR functions including recruitment and staff development when required.
• Negotiate with suppliers and contractors under guidance of the Technical Manager.
• Assist in site management of building and renovation projects (including casual contractors).
• Contribute to design, construction and maintenance of water purification and greywater systems.
• Support plumbing, electrical (domestic), refrigeration, air‑conditioning, carpentry and general maintenance tasks.
• Assist in IT network infrastructure maintenance.
• Participate in sustainability initiatives including solar installations and water‑saving projects.
• Maintain clear communication channels with lodge managers and operations teams.
