Job summary

Sappi in KwaZulu-Natal is seeking an Assistant Rewinder to support the Rewinderman in the Finishing House. You will help convert paper reels from work in progress into finished goods, while maintaining safe tool use and precise positioning with overhead hoists and reels.

This role requires a Grade 12 or NQF Level 4, plus at least 3 months in plant operations. Sappi offers growth, development programs, travel opportunities where applicable, strong leave benefits and wellbeing support.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 qualification.
• 3 Months Plant Operations Experience.

Responsibilities

• Inspect all hand tools and ensure they are in safe working condition.
• Position the on-put reel on the dolly in the epco track behind the rewinder back stand and remove the core plugs and strapping from the reel.
• Operate the overhead hoist to position the unwind shaft level with the core of the reel.
• Push the reel towards the shaft until the end of the shaft enters the core of the reel.
• Unhook the hoist chain nearest the reel and push the reel forward until approx 50% of the shaft is into the core of the reel.
• Remove the second hoist chain and push the shaft until the core is against the cone of the shaft.
• Assist the Rewinder to hoist the reel and load it into the back stand.
• Assist the Rewinder in cutting up side-run reels and remove them to the PM2 broke conveyor.
• Assist the Rewinder in feeding the paper sheet from the back stand, through the rewinder and onto the winding shaft.
