Job summary

Profession Hub is seeking an Assistant Production and Nightshift Manager to oversee night operations at Centurion, with day shift training until ready to manage the night shift. The role focuses on safe, efficient converting, quality control and smooth handovers to the day shift.

You will supervise night shift staff, manage start-up/shutdown, ensure housekeeping, and report performance to Operations Management.

Job description

Our client is searching for an Assistant Production and Nightshift Manager to join their team (Centurion / Samrand). Please note that the successful candidate will work only the day shift until fully trained and ready to manage the night shift.

Location: Centurion Shift: Mon –Thu 18:00–06:00 + some Fridays (as required)

Role purpose:

• To oversee all converting operations during the night shift, ensuring efficient production, consistent quality, and safe working conditions. The Manager is responsible for leading the team, meeting daily targets, maintaining equipment, and ensuring proper communication with day shift and management.

Key duties:

• Supervise night shift staff and daily production activities
• Ensure safe work practices, housekeeping, and quality checks
• Manage start-up/shutdown, shift handovers, and reporting
• Troubleshoot stoppages and coordinate maintenance support

Minimum requirements

Production Management:

• Ensure all converting machines are running efficiently and according to schedule.
• Monitor production performance per line and ensure targets are achieved.
• Prioritise product runs according to the production plan provided by Operations.
• Ensure correct materials are ready and available before each run.
• Record production output per machine and report variances or stoppages.

Quality Control

• Perform hourly quality checks on rolls
• Ensure correct product codes, packaging, and pallet identification.
• Immediately report and isolate defective or non-conforming products.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards around machines and storage areas.

Team Supervision

• Manage and guide operators, packers, and forklift drivers during the night shift.
• Ensure staff are at their workstations, wearing PPE, and following procedures.
• Conduct shift startup and end-of-shift briefings.
• Address minor disciplinary issues and escalate serious ones to HR or Operations Manager.

Safety & Housekeeping

• Always Enforce health and safety rules (lockout/tagout, PPE, fire safety).
• Ensure aisles are clear and no waste buildup occurs around machines.
• Report any machine faults, oil leaks, or safety hazards immediately.
• Ensure all forklifts and pallet jacks are parked and charged after use.

5. Administration & Handover

• Complete nightly production reports (outputs, downtime, material usage).
• Log machine breakdowns and maintenance needs.
• Communicate any issues to the day shift supervisor and Operations Manager via the shift logbook or WhatsApp report.
• Ensure all documentation and checklists are completed before leaving.
