Job description

Assistant Factory Manager

The Assistant Factory Manager is responsible for the overall supervision of plant operations, including production, quality control, quality assurance, maintenance, and health & safety.

Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training personnel, as well as maintaining the facility and overseeing capital improvements.

This role requires close collaboration with the production team to enhance productivity and profitability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Training and at least 5 years of experience in managerial and production platforms.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Production planning and execution
  • Plant and machinery maintenance and efficiency
  • Staff management
  • Health and safety compliance
  • Quality control and assurance
  • Inventory management
  • Reporting to Manufacturing Manager
  • Communication with factory staff and other managers
  • Monitoring operating expenses and machinery reliability
  • Maintaining safety and housekeeping standards
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental regulations, and insurance requirements
  • Product cost management and maintaining bills of materials
  • Developing supplier relationships for material availability
  • Supporting weekly production plans and schedules
  • Cycle stock counts and variance investigations
  • Managing factory stock inventory
  • Workforce planning, hiring, and training
  • Maintaining production, maintenance, quality, safety, and personnel records
  • Conducting performance appraisals and coaching
  • Handling disciplinary and grievance matters
  • Managing union relationships and negotiations
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assisting in reducing wastage and production constraints
  • Researching machinery and process improvements

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • 5+ years supervising 10+ staff
  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and procurement systems
  • Knowledge of materials planning and quality management systems
  • Experience with lean tools and continuous improvement
  • Understanding of manufacturing principles, maintenance, and engineering
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of labor laws, OSH Act, and environmental legislation
