Job title : Assistant Manager Nursing (Speciality - Orthopaedics / Ophthalmology)

Job Location : KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg

Deadline : April 17

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Grade 12 Certificate
  2. Degree / Diploma in General Nursing
  3. A Post Basic Qualification in Orthopaedic Nursing Science or Ophthalmology Nursing Science (minimum one year) accredited with the SANC
  4. Current Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse (SANC receipt)
  5. A minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognizable experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing
  6. At least 6 years of the above must be in the specific speciality after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification in Orthopaedic Nursing Science or Ophthalmology Nursing Science
  7. At least three years of the above must be at Management level (e.g., from the level of an Operational Manager)

Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit proof of all documents, including a certificate of service endorsed by the HR Department.

DUTIES:

  1. Plan, organize, and monitor objectives of Orthopaedics / Ophthalmology and Surgical units.
  2. Manage and provide a therapeutic environment for staff, patients, and the public accessing health care services at Grey's Hospital.
  3. Demonstrate effective communication to patients, families, multidisciplinary team members, and other stakeholders within the hospital.
  4. Ensure that high-quality nursing care is rendered to all clients accessing Orthopaedics / Ophthalmology and Surgical health services at Grey's Hospital, considering safety risk assessments and patient safety incident prevention and reporting.
  5. Manage the utilization and supervision of all resources, considering cost containment measures.
  6. Manage, coordinate, and plan the provision of effective training and research, focusing on programs aimed at improving Orthopaedics / Ophthalmology and Surgical services in the nursing units.
  7. Manage staff performance by implementing the performance management system of the Department of Health.
  8. Instil discipline, professionalism, and work ethics among employees.
  9. Develop strategies to ensure compliance with quality care, infection prevention, and control (IPC) programs (e.g., Ideal Hospital Realization and Maintenance (IHRM) and Norms and Standards (N&S)).
  10. Maintain a constructive working environment with the multi-disciplinary team members.
  11. Provide effective support to Nursing services (e.g., assist with relief duties to nursing management).
