Job description

Upkeep of the Hotel and grounds, with a specific focus on all building maintenance projects; as well as in the implementation of a comprehensive proactive preventative maintenance program.

Ensuring that cost is minimised without compromising quality and that labour is used as efficiently as possible.

Ensuring that the department's operating procedures and processes comply with prevailing Occupational Health and Safety as well as Environmental Laws.

Being aware of the emergency evacuation, security, and fire procedures of the Hotel.

Ensuring that staff are rostered according to operational requirements; ensuring that there is always sufficient labour available to meet high guest service standards.

Attending to all electrical, mechanical, and construction breakdowns in the hotel.

Attending to the day-to-day maintenance of all refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.

Assisting in running the Maintenance shift briefing, ensuring that staff are fully briefed on the maintenance requirements for the day.

Performing a weekly walk-around of the entire property and gardens to assess possible building maintenance opportunities.

Assisting with managing, administering, and documenting the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly compliance requirements for H&S standards, Legionella measurements, Fire Protection Equipment Impairments, Sprinkler Impairment Systems, and Hotwork permits.

Ensuring the safe handling of refrigerant gas, oil, and electrical tasks in accordance with H&S standards.

Ensuring that all day-to-day maintenance of guest rooms, public areas, building interior and exterior, as well as the cleaning and testing of pools, is completed.

Assisting with administering the maintenance schedule as per SOP on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.

Assisting in managing the monthly maintenance consumable stock-take and ensuring that any variances are investigated, resolved, and reported in accordance with financial guidelines.

Requirements :

  • NQF Level 5 certificate as an electrical and/or mechanical technician or equivalent trade test certificate.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a general maintenance, building facilities management, or construction project management position.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a 4/5-star hotel environment.
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining Stock Management Control Systems.
  • Computer literacy with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Solid financial understanding.
  • Proven understanding of Health and Safety standards as well as Environmental Impact Controls. Relevant qualifications or experience in this area are advantageous.
  • Understanding of the technical aspects of hotel maintenance, including building maintenance, air conditioning plant equipment, refrigeration, water supply, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of hot water reticulation systems and pumped sewer systems.
  • Highly presentable
  • Excellent command of English with solid verbal and written communication skills. Fluency in Xhosa and/or Afrikaans is advantageous.
  • Ability to work under pressure and flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
