Assistant Inspector at Financial Intelligence Centre

Job Purpose

Assist with conducting inspections on accountable and reporting institutions to assess their compliance levels with the provisions of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act 38 of 2001 (the FIC Act), under guidance.

Technical Competencies

• Assist with research and identify suitable accountable and reporting institutions for inspections, utilizing a risk-based approach.
• Assess compliance levels with the FIC Act by accountable and reporting institutions, under guidance.
• Assist with collecting and maintaining the integrity of information evidencing compliance levels with the FIC Act.
• Draft and process inspection reports detailing compliance levels of inspected institutions, under guidance.
• Recommend appropriate remedial actions to address any non-compliance, under guidance.
• Conduct research on domestic and international AML compliance and enforcement trends.
• Provide basic guidance and advice to accountable institutions, reporting institutions, and supervisory bodies regarding compliance with the FIC Act, under guidance.
• Attend to and respond to correspondences.

Education, Skills, and Experience

Education

• Bachelor's degree, e.g., LLB, B.Com (Law), or NQF level 7 equivalent.
• Qualifications in anti-money laundering, compliance management, or forensics are advantageous.

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a junior law enforcement or compliance environment.

Skills

• Knowledge of the FIC Act, other anti-money laundering legislation, and international AML standards.
• Investigative and analytical skills.
• Intermediate legal drafting skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including MS Word, MS Access, MS Project, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
• A high level of judgment and integrity.
